Gain Hands-On Clinical Experience Before Medical, PA, or Nursing School

Skin and Cancer Institute is hiring full-time Back Office Medical Assistants for our  GAP Year Clinical Experience Program . This role is ideal for recent graduates pursuing careers in medicine, physician assistant (PA), or healthcare who are looking to gain direct patient care and procedural experience in dermatology.

The GAP Year Program Offers:

• Direct exposure to medical and procedural dermatology
  • High patient volume = real clinical immersion
  • Opportunity for strong letters of recommendation (based on performance and tenure)
• Work 1:1 with experienced providers
• Build clinical skills for:
  • Nursing/NP pathways
  • Physician Assistant (PA) programs
  • Medical school (MD/DO)

Schedule & Commitment

• Full-time (30–40+ hours per week)
• 9–12 month commitment strongly preferred 

Key Responsibilities

• Room patients, take vitals, and document in EMR
• Assist providers with dermatologic procedures (biopsies, excisions, cosmetic treatments)
• Perform clinical support tasks:
  • Suture removal and wound care
  • Specimen handling and lab prep
  • Procedure setup and breakdown
• Maintain exam room cleanliness and OSHA compliance
• Support patient flow and clinic efficiency
• Deliver a high-quality, professional patient experience

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree (completed or in progress), preferably in Biology, Health Sciences, or related field
• Strong GPA (3.3+)
• Strong interest in healthcare/medicine
• Reliable, detail-oriented, and able to work in a fast-paced environment
• Professional communication and patient interaction skills

Preferred:

• Medical Assistant certification
• Previous clinical or healthcare experience
• EMR/EHR familiarity
